Obituary of Berneda Foltz

Berneda Foltz, age 85, of Garnett, Kansas, died Friday, December 28, 2007, at the Anderson County Hospital, Garnett, Kansas. She was born on February 21, 1922, at Scipio, Kansas, the daughter of Christopher T. Mersman and Ida L. (Brummel) Mersman. She grew up in the Scipio and Garnett area, living in Anderson County her entire life. Berneda married Paul J. Foltz on May 3, 1941, at Scipio, Kansas. This union was blessed with eight children. He preceded her in death on May 27, 1973. Paul and Berneda farmed and in 1957 they built the Garnett Bowling Center and operated it until Pauls passing in 1973. Berneda was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, Holy Angels Altar Society, Womens Bowling Association, and an auxiliary member of the Elks and VFW. She enjoyed her card club friends, playing cards and bingo, and bowling, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; two brothers, Virgil Mersman and Leon Mersman; two sisters, Lorraine Clark and Velma Vane. Berneda is survived by five sons; Dwyane Foltz and wife Barbara of Garnett, Kansas; Charles Foltz and wife Carol of Garnett, Kansas; Donald Joe Foltz and wife Nancy of Vienna, Virginia; Gary Foltz and wife Cindy of Lenexa, Kansas; Dan Foltz and wife Monica of Perry, Kansas; three daughters; Pauline Hermann and Harold of Garnett, Kansas; Janice Miller and husband Bill of Greeley, Kansas; Arlene Gardner and husband Dennis of Lenexa, Kansas; her brother Norbert Mersman and wife Joan of Mesa, Arizona; sisters Elverna Poppen of South Elgin, Illinois; Iona Oberzan and husband Edward of Kansas City, Missouri; and a sister-in-law, Betty Mersman of Peel, Arkansas; twenty-one grandchildren; and twenty-one great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends and family. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 2, 2008, at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Garnett, Kansas. Burial will follow at the Holy Angels Cemetery, Garnett, Kansas. The family will greet friends from 5-7 PM on Tuesday, January 1, 2008, at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett. Memorial contributions are to be made to Holy Angels Building Fund or St. Rose Catholic School, Garnett.
