Berniece Shaw, age 89, of Garnett, Kansas, died Thursday, December 27, 2007 at Golden Heights Living Center, Garnett, Kansas. Berniece was born on September 1, 1918, at Wilsey, Kansas, the daughter of Maranda Hugh Burton and Golda Gladys (Parsons) Burton. She grew up in Morris County, and graduated from Parkerville High School in 1936. She married George Shaw on October 31, 1937, at Parkerville, Kansas. He preceded her in death on May 30, 1990. She also lived in Chase County, then moved to Emporia, before moving to Garnett in 1955. She retired from Garnett State Savings Bank in 1978, at which time she traveled with her husband, before settling in the Phoenix, Arizona area. Berniece married Lonnie Oscar Kindred on March 29, 1997. They moved back to Garnett in 2000. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Garnett, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her first husband, George Shaw; her son, Donald Eugene Burton in 1974; her parents; and her sister Zerna Drew in 1994. Berniece is survived by two daughters, Sandi Peine and husband Larry of Garnett, Kansas; Janice McGie and husband Billy of Wittmann, Arizona; twenty-three grandchildren; fifty-four great-grandchildren; and nineteen great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be Sunday from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 219 S. Oak P.O. Box 408, Garnett, Kansas. The funeral will be Monday at 1:00 p.m. at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 219 S. Oak P.O. Box 408, Garnett with Pastor Vern Belew officiating. Burial will follow at the Garnett Cemetery.
