Irma Hininger Jones-Johnson was born March 16, 1911 to Geroge and Alda Hininger at the farm home near Bush City, Kansas. She became a member of the Lincoln Chapel Methodist Church at the age of 13 and later transferred her membership to the United Methodist Church in Garnett. In 1932 she graduated from the Garnett High School. Irma and Kenneth Jones were united in marriage on August 12, 1939 at the Methodist Parsonage in Selma, Kansas. They lived all their married life on a farm east of Garnett. After the death of her husband in 1969, she purchased a home at 414 W. 4th St. in Garnett. She was past president of the United Methodist Women, the Ruth Circle, Search Light Club, Flower & Garden Club, The American Association of Retired People, and a Board Member of the Senior Citizens Organization. Irma and Clarence Johnson were united in marriage on June 26, 1983 in the Methodist Church in Garnett. They moved into their new home which Clarence had built at 215 S. Walnut. Irma was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Kenneth Jones; one sister Zetha Mumma; two brothers, Orval Hininger and Delmar Hininger; two nieces, Wanda Gale and Zelma Fitzgibbon; one nephew, Wayne Hininger; and one step son-in-law, Charles Gwin. She is survived by her husband Clarence, several nieces and nephews, and two stepdaughters, Kay Gwin of Garnett, Kansas; and Beverly Watkins and husband Raymond of Scottsville, Illinois; five step grandchildren; nine step great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Irma loved her family and friends.
