Obituary of Helen Marie Perkins
Helen Marie (Patrick) Perkins passed away on January 26, 2014 at the Moran Manor in Moran, Ks. Helen was born on January 18, 1919 in Vail, Iowa to Joseph Patrick and Emma Turner Patrick. Helen and her family moved to Kansas when she was 3 months old and lived most of her life in Lone Elm, Ks. She attended Lone Elm School until the ninth grade. She then went to Mildred Kansas where she worked graduated from Mildred Grade & High.
On July 15, 1939 she married Leslie Scott Perkins in Fort Scott. They made their home in the Geneva and Iola areas until the flood of 1951 when they moved to Moran, Ks. Born to this marriage were three children Larry S., Loretta, and Roberta. Roberta passed away at birth. She had four brothers and one sister.
Helen was employed by the USD 256 Moran as a cook for nearly 30 years, until retiring in 1987. She loved to cook, crochet, quilt and sew.
Proceeding her in death was her husband Leslie, daughter, Roberta; son, Larry S. Sr.; granddaughter, Collette; and four brothers, Frank, George, Robert and DeLane Patrick; and her sister, Margaret Patrick Lewis.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Loretta Miller Roberts and husband, Lee, of Moran; seven grandchildren, Arnold Miller Jr. and wife, Beth of Pomona, Bryan Miller and wife Tina of Colony, Craig Miller and wife, Paula of Moran, Larry S. Perkins Jr. and Terry Perkins of Galesburg, Kansas, Mary Simpson and husband, Randy, and Kerry Perkins, Chanute, Kansas; thirteen great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, January 30, 2014 at the Feuerborn Family Service Chapel in Moran, burial will follow in the Moran Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Moran.
