Obituary of John L. Stifter
John L. Stifter, age 61, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2014, at Anderson County Long Term Care in Garnett.
He was born on November 17, 1952, at Garnett, Kansas, the sixth of ten children born to Frank and Rosemarie (Hastert) Stifter. John grew up in Greeley, and he loved to hunt, fish, and torment his sisters. He graduated from Greeley High School in 1971. After graduating, he began working at BEHM.
John married Dorothy Jones on April 19, 1975 at Holy Angels Church in Garnett. This union was blessed with four children. They later divorced and then in 1988 they remarried and divorced in 1995.
He worked as a crane operator at Haven/Schuff Steel from 1983 to 2010. John also farmed, hauled hay, and worked as a mechanic in addition to his regular job. John loved mechanics, and he enjoyed building race engines and restoring cars. He always had some kind of project he was working on. John also enjoyed deep sea fishing. He was the happiest when he was working.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Rosemarie Stifter; and a brother, Dennis Stifter.
John is survived by two sons, Mike Stifter and wife Janell of Garnett; Jason Stifter of Garnett; two daughters, Alisha Wynne and husband Steve of Webb City, Missouri; Charity Stifter of Richmond, Kansas; brothers and sisters, Eddy Stifter of Greeley, Kansas; Kay and Ronnie Pedrow of Garnett, Kansas; Roy and Marlene Stifter of Greeley, Kansas; Rita Hughes of McLouth, Kansas; Dorothy and Dan Morrell of Blue Mound, Kansas; Connie and Bob Wittman of Garnett, Kansas; Mary Jo Stifter and Jackie Bowen of Richmond, Kansas; and Danny and Jeanine Stifter of Greeley, Kansas; brothers-in-law Lee Jones and wife Cathy of Yuma, Arizona; Anthony Jones of Beaufort, South Carolina; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 13, 2014, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett, Kansas. Family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to W.I.N.G.S.
