Obituary of Robert L. Peine
Robert L. Peine, age 57, of Princeton, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2013, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence, Kansas.
Robert was born on October 2, 1956, in Garnett, Kansas, the son of Leo and Nadine (Nelson) Peine. He grew up west of Richmond, and attended school at Catholic elementary school at Scipio. As a boy Robert helped on the family farm. He attended high school at Garnett and was a member of FFA and the livestock judging team. Robert graduated from Garnett High School in 1974.
He was united in marriage to Sandy Potter on February 21, 1976, in Scipio, Kansas. This union was blessed with three children.
Robert was a lifelong farmer and rancher. Over the years he also worked off of the farm including, working at Haven Steel for 13 years as a welder/fabricator and working on the installation of the Richmond water line. Robert loved his cattle so much so that the family vacation was to Scott City where they could check on his cattle in the feedlot. He was especially proud of the land that he began farming with his father and continued to farm throughout the rest of his life. Robert was a proud father and was immensely competitive when his children were participating in the local fair; he also enjoyed helping his children prepare their livestock for the fair. His greatest joy was his children and grandchildren, and he also especially enjoyed sharing the farm and playing tic/tac/toe with his grandkids.
He was a longtime member of the Richmond Free Fair Board. Robert was also a member of the Kansas Livestock Association, serving on the board, also as County Director and County President. He was a member of the National Cattlemen's Association; National Beef Council; and U.S. Premium Beef.
Robert was preceded in death by his father, Leo Peine; and an infant brother, John Peine.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy Peine, of the home; two sons, Jeff Peine and wife Nikki of Princeton, Kansas; John Peine and wife Kaitlyn of Desoto, Kansas; daughter Jody Keltner and husband Scott of Eudora, Kansas; nine grandchildren; his mother, Nadine Peine of Richmond, Kansas; two brothers, Jim Peine of Chicago, Illinois; and Keith Peine and wife Teresa of Garnett, Kansas; sister, Martha Baker and husband, John, of Shawnee, Kansas.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 30, 2013, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett, Kansas. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Robert Peine K.L.A. Scholarship and left in care of the funeral home.
