Obituary of Marjorie J. Jones

Marjorie Ellington Jones, age 83, of Iola, Kansas, passed away on Monday, November 25, 2013, at Iola Nursing Center in Iola, Kansas. She and her twin brother were the youngest of four children born to Amer L. and Jeanetta (Stahl) McCullough. Marjorie was born on May 18, 1930, in Burlington, Kansas. She grew up in and attended schools in Burlington, Kansas. Following school she continued to live in the Burlington area and worked as a waitress. Marjorie married Raymond Schneider, two children were born to this union, Mike and Jeanette. They later divorced. While working at an Ottawa, Kansas restaurant, Marjorie met H.M. "Duke" Ellington. They were married in 1955; they made their home in the Lone Elm Community. Four sons were born to this union, Ed, John, Dean and Tom. While her children were young Marjorie was home with them. After the death of Duke in 1975 Marjorie began working as a waitress in Garnett. Marjorie and Duke enjoyed fishing and dancing. She also enjoyed cross word puzzles until her eyesight would no longer permit her to complete them. Marjorie could often be found watching the Royals on TV. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; twin brother, Marvin McCullough; brother, Gerald McCullough; sister, Audra Mahar; grandson, Ward Byerley; and great grandson, Brayden Yocham. She is survived by her children, Mike Schneider of Syracuse, New York; Jeanette Young and husband Tim of Garnett, Kansas; Ed Ellington and wife Nancy of Colony, Kansas; John Ellington and wife Nancy of Yates Center, Kansas; Dean Ellington and wife Stacey of Andover, Kansas; and Tom Ellington of Kansas City, Missouri; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, November 29, 2013, at the Lone Elm Cemetery in Lone Elm, Kansas. The family will greet friends following the service at the Lone Elm Community Building. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lone Elm Community Building and left in care of the funeral home.
