Obituary of Buford Cullen Larson
Buford Cullen Larson, age 80, of Fort Scott, Kansas, formerly of Elsmore, Kansas, passed away at his home on Wednesday, November 20, 2013.
Buford was the second of two children born to Vernon A. and Zodeen (Rumbeck) Larson. He was born on the family farm near Elsmore on August 28, 1933. Buford lived all but the last year of his life within one mile of his birthplace. He graduated from Elsmore High School in 1951. Buford's passion was farming; he was a man of few hobbies, because he was usually working. He enjoyed square dancing and later in life he loved the times he and Joan were able to travel. He served on the founding boards and was a past president of the Rural Water District #2 and the Wholesale Water Board. Buford was a member of the Elsmore United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge of Savonburg. He married Patricia Dole in 1954. Two children were born to this union and they later adopted two children. Their marriage ended in divorce. On January 4, 1995 Buford married Joan Bohannon. They made their home on the family farm until 2012 when they moved to Fort Scott.
Buford was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jeremy Larson in 1996; and one brother, Bernard Larson in 2003.
He is survived by his wife, Joan of the home in Fort Scott, Kansas; three daughters, Gayla Jo Neufeld and husband Jacob of Oklahoma; Gwendolyn Joan Sapienza and husband Bill of Colony, Kansas; and Samantha Lyons of Clarksville, Tennessee; one step-daughter, Sharon Kramer and husband Donald of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; five grandchildren, Brian Blagburn, Rachel Blagburn, Caden Lyons, Zoey Lyons, and Chloe Kramer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, November 25, 2013 at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Moran, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Elsmore Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 2:00-4:00 PM, Sunday afternoon at the funeral home in Moran.
