Obituary of Mary A. Smith
Mary A. (Henderson) Smith, age 96, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at the Guest Home Estates in Garnett, Kansas.
Mary was born on November 10, 1912, in the Bush City area, the daughter of Boyd and Altha Henderson.
She was united in marriage to Claude L. Smith on November 10, 1940 in Iola, Kansas. To this union two children were born, Ronnie and Connie.
Mary was a homemaker, but also worked outside the home at several local businesses in Garnett; the Garnett Bakery, Coker's Dry Good Store, and JC Penney's. Mary was also a talented seamstress and loved to work in her flower garden. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Garnett.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, three sisters, and her husband, Claude on July 25, 1984.
Mary is survived by her children, and families; Ronald Smith and wife Phyllis of Topeka and their two sons, Scott and family of Austin, Texas, and Troy and family of Eppington, New Hampshire; and Connie Hafenstine and husband Bob of Topeka and their three sons, Mark and family of Lawrence, Kansas, Michael and family of Kansas City, Missouri, and Dan and family of Topeka, Kansas; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, LaVerne Howarter of Welda, Kansas; and Esther Scott of Independence, Kansas; one brother, Wayne Henderson and wife Irma of Liberty Lake, Washington, and many relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 6, 2009, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett, Kansas. Burial will follow at the Garnett Cemetery in Garnett, Kansas. She will lie in state after 11:00 a.m. on Sunday afternoon at the Garnett funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church in Garnett, Kansas, and sent in care of the funeral home.
