Obituary of Benita Grinzinger
Benita Grinzinger, age 92, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2013, at Golden Heights in Garnett, Kansas.
She was born on March 9, 1921, in Marcus, Iowa, the daughter of Theodore "Ted" and Clara (Rotert) Greufe. She was the oldest of eight children. Benita graduated from the 8th grade in 1935, and began cooking and cleaning for various individuals, including the nuns who taught at Maple Grove Elementary. She moved to Kansas City in 1937, where she continued to cook and clean for others, earning wages that varied from $3.50 to $9.00 per week.
While living in the city, Benita met Joe Grinzinger, whom she married on October 3, 1942, in Montrose, Missouri. In 1943, they moved to a farm southeast of Lane, Kansas and raised two daughters, Helen Elaine and Carol Ann. In 1965, Benita began working as a seamstress at a sewing factory in Paola, Kansas, where she worked for 16 years. After Joe's death on May 23, 1995, Benita sold the farm where she had lived for 52 years and moved to Garnett, Kansas.
Benita and Joe were members of St. John's Church in Greeley where she was a member of the Altar Society. After moving to Garnett, Benita attended Holy Angels Church.
Benita was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, Ted and Clara Greufe; four brothers, Leland, Boniface, Ludgar and Howard.
She is survived by her daughters, Helen Feuerborn and husband George "Bud" of Richmond, Kansas; Carol Lewis and husband Rick of Olathe, Kansas; sisters Beatrice Vogel of Montrose, Missouri; Alice Westheusing of Montrose, Missouri; and Ellen Burroughs of Kansas City, Missouri; six grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; and six great great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 18, 2013, at St. John's Catholic Church in Greeley, Kansas. Burial will follow at St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Greeley Kansas. Family will greet friends following a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett, Kansas.
