Obituary of Norma L. Martin

Norma Lee Martin, age 84, of Babcock Place, Lawrence, Kansas, passed away on Monday, July 1, 2013, at Baldwin Healthcare and Rehab LLC. She was born on March 22, 1929, at Brewster, Kansas, the daughter of Bill and Pauline (Kammer) Schwerdt. Norma graduated from Brewster High School in 1947. Following high school she worked in Goodland, Kansas at a dry goods store and then as a waitress. Norma was united in marriage to Donald Eugene Martin on September 19, 1950 at Goodland; this union was blessed with three children. They made their home in Goodland until moving to a farm near Ottawa, Kansas. She was a homemaker, and helped her husband run his business, Don's Propane. They moved to Garnett in 1997. In 2003 Norma moved to the Babcock Place at Lawrence. While there she enjoyed the exercise group. She was a wonderful cook and will be missed for her cooking and canning. Norma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald Martin on December 9, 2001; son Bill Martin on September 21, 2001; grandson Paul Martin; brother Dean Schwerdt; She will be missed greatly by her family and friends. Norma is survived by two daughters, Diane Spurling and husband Ken of Lawrence, Kansas; Cathy Monahan of Apache Junction, Arizona; sister LaVona Rand of Goodland, Kansas; six grandchildren, Tosha Leach, Dillon Leach, Bobby Martin, Billy Martin, Kevin Spurling, and Troy Spurling; and ten great grandchildren. Norma's family would like to express their gratitude to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Baldwin Healthcare and Midland Hospice for the excellent care she received. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 8, 2013, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett, Kansas. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service time. Burial will be in the Garnett Cemetery following the service.
