Obituary of Albert J. Mace

Albert J. Mace, age 91, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at Anderson County Long Term Care in Garnett, Kansas. He was born on December 5, 1921, in Anderson County, Kansas, the son of Herman Alexander Mace and Nora Mae (Sutton) Mace. Al attended school at Chase Mound near Westphalia. He was a WWII veteran, serving in the U.S. Army; he was stationed in the Philippines during World War II. Al was united in marriage to Doii Merideth Worley on December 6, 1948 in Benton County, Arkansas. This union was blessed with three children. After WWII, Al returned to Anderson County and started farming. In 1957 he began working for USD 365 as a janitor at Irving School in Garnett, retiring in December of 1983 with 26 years of faithful service. In 1970, he started Al's Pest Control and continued to operate the business for several years after retiring from the school. He enjoyed gardening and taking his children hiking. He was a devoted church member as well as a Charter Member of Garnett Assembly of God Church. Al was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Leslie Mace and Walter Mace; four sisters, Leatha Mace Hulett; Alice Mace Ryan; Mary Pearl Mace Mullins; and Thelma Mace Hollingshead. He is survived by his wife Doii Mace, of Garnett; two sons, Clyde A. Mace and wife Jenny of Pryor, Oklahoma; Roger Mace and wife Debera of Welda, Kansas; daughter Sheryl Cox and husband Bruce of Ottawa, Kansas; sister Gilma Beckman of Kingman, Arizona; and numerous grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2013, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Garnett Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday evening at the funeral home.
