Obituary of Genevieve Caldwell
Garnett, Kansas - Genevieve (Klages) Caldwell, age 87, passed away March 13, 2009 at the Anderson County Hospital. Genevieve was born March 17, 1921 at Chanute, Kansas, the daughter of Gustave F. and Clara (Wilkinson) Klages.
Genevieve graduated from Garnett High School with the class of 1939. Genevieve married Glenn Caldwell, Sr. on November 18, 1939 at Stillwater, Oklahoma. This union was blessed with two children. She was a homemaker and an integral partner in the operation of Caldwell Farms and Caldwell Enterprises. The farm operations were always an important part of Genevieve's life.
Genevieve was a 57 year member of the First Christian Church, Garnett; and a member of Azrim Temple #81 Daughters of the Nile and Delphian Chapter #309 Order of the Eastern Star.
Genevieve truly enjoyed working in her yard and visiting with everyone when they stopped to say hello, and playing bridge. When younger she also enjoyed bowling and golf.
Genevieve was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She and Glenn loved to travel and were more than generous with family and friends. Their travels included trips to Europe, Australia, the Hawaiian Islands and many places in the United States. She will be missed by all that her life touched.
Genevieve was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years Glenn, on August 20, 2003, her parents Gustave F. and Clara (Wilkinson) Klages, her sisters, Marjorie Riley and Marguerite Dale.
Genevieve is survived by her son Glenn Caldwell, Jr. and his wife Linda, Garnett, her daughter Glenda and her husband Henry (Ray) Scheuermann, Henderson, Nevada. Her grandchildren Henry (Trey) Scheuermann and his wife Diane of Homer City, Pennsylvania; Mary Snyder and her husband Jack of Garnett; Susan Scheuermann and her husband John (Baron) Schlegel of Henderson, Nevada; Jeremy Caldwell and his wife Stephanie of Shawnee, Kansas; Matt Caldwell and his wife Rachel of Prairie Village, Kansas; her great grandchildren Alyse and Hilary Scheuermann; Audrey and Aaron Oestreicher; Charlotte Caldwell; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at the First Christian Church, Garnett. Interment will follow in the Garnett Cemetery. Genevieve will lie in state at the funeral home after 9:00 AM, Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church or to the Anderson County Hospital Foundation.
