Obituary of Maxine Cuppet

Maxine Louise Cuppet, age 89, passed away August 24, 2012 at the Wilson Memorial Center in Neodesha, Kansas. Maxine was born March 19, 1923 at Pawnee Station, Kansas, the daughter of Andy Thornton and Bertha Lena (Shankel) Gooding. She attended Pawnee Station School and graduated from Hepler High School in 1941. On September 24, 1947 she married Vern L. Cuppet at the Covenant Parsonage Savonburg. Vern and Maxine ran the Standard Service Station in Savonburg for several years after selling the station Maxine cooked at the Savonburg Grade School and later at Stark High School until it closed. She then worked at Burlington Overall Factory in Chanute until retirement. Maxine was also Savonburg City Clerk for several years. Maxine was a member of Savonburg Eastern Star #335 and later Sunflower Chapter #147 in Chanute for a total of 65 years. Maxine was a member of the former Savonburg Christian Church and later attended the Savonburg Bible Church when she was able. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Vern, sisters, Ethel Turner and Pearl Weeks Shorter and brother Ray Gooding. Maxine is survived by two sons, Jim Shomaker Wilmington, California and Leon "Butch" Cuppet of Savonburg, Kansas; two daughters, Loretta Jameson of Humboldt, Kansas and Jeanie Mavec and husband Matt of Wichita, Kansas; nine grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Lucille Gooding of Williamsburg, Kansas and brother-in-law, Lyle Cuppet of Erie, Kansas; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 30, 2012, at Savonburg Bible Church with burial at Mt. Moriah, Savonburg, Kansas. The family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 29 at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel at Moran, Kansas. Memorials may be made to the Savonburg Library.
