Obituary of Joseph "Joe" P. Guilfoyle

Joseph "Joe" Guilfoyle, age 64, of Fort Scott, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at Via Christy Hospital in Pittsburg, Kansas. Joe was born on October 10, 1947, in Skiatook, Oklahoma, the son of Patrick Paul and Ora Belle (Porche) Guilfoyle. He graduated from Greeley High School with the Class of 1965. He joined the United States Army serving for two years during the Vietnam War, stationed in Ft. Polk, Louisiana. Joe worked for Ecodyne Fiberglass in Tulsa, Oklahoma for 9 years before owning his own fiberglass company. He then worked for McDonnell Douglas Company in Oklahoma for 17 years, and owned a jewelry store, Butterfly's Jewelry. He retired to Florida for 3 years before moving back to Kansas to be near family. He was a member of the St. John's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, both of Greeley, Kansas. He recently became a member of the Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church, Fort Scott, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his father, Pat Guilfoyle on November 12, 2002; brother, Mike Guilfoyle on September 8, 1992; and a nephew Kyle Matthew Guilfoyle on February 1, 1993. Joe is survived by his mother, Ora Belle Guilfoyle of Fort Scott, Kansas; brothers, John Guilfoyle and wife Susie of Oologah, Oklahoma; Tom Guilfoyle and wife Vickie of Parker, Kansas; Dave Guilfoyle and wife Cheryl of Greeley, Kansas; Ron Guilfoyle and wife Donna of Fontana, Kansas; Bill Guilfoyle and wife Gina of Kansas City, Missouri; and Rick Guilfoyle and wife Kim of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; sisters, Judy Petersen and husband Ken of Oro Valley, Arizona; and Laura Krom and husband Dennis of Fort Scott, Kansas; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at St. John's Catholic Church, with burial following in the St. John's Cemetery, Greeley. A rosary will be held on Tuesday evening at 6:00 p.m. at the church, followed with family greeting friends at the St. John's Hall. Memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans and may be left in care of the funeral home.
