Obituary of Joseph L. Humbert Jr.

Joseph L. Humbert Jr., age 80, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at the Anderson County Hospital in Garnett, Kansas. Joe was born on April 23, 1931 in Ottawa, Kansas, the son of Joseph L. Humbert, Sr. and Lenora (Finch) Humbert. He attended Greeley High School, graduating in 1950. Joe was a member of the U.S. Army, serving from 1950 to 1953, and fought in the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Joan Cutter on February 6, 1954, in Lockport, New York. This union was blessed with two children. Joe worked as a welder for BEHM from 1964 to 1973. He traveled over the United States for Local #83 until 1973, when he opened Humco Steel. He sold the business to Taylor Forge and retired in 1991. He was a member of Lane Blue Lodge 3rd Degree; Lawrence Scottish Rite 32nd for 50 years; VFW for 50 years; member of the EKan Board; helped Lytle's with their fireworks stand; and spent his free time fishing and hunting. He especially enjoyed his time with friends and his family. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law Connie and Jack Angell; and brother-in-law Ben Brinkmeyer. He is survived by his wife, Joan Humbert of the home; son Joseph F. Humbert and wife Marcia of Tulsa, Oklahoma; daughter Ruth Humbert of Topeka, Kansas; two sisters, Mary Lou Brinkmeyer of Garnett, Kansas; Lenora "Snooky" Honn and husband Martin of Ottawa, Kansas; one brother, James Humbert and wife Ann of Tulsa, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Melissa Smith; Benjamin Davenport; Elizabeth Humbert; two great grandchildren, Aria Stacks and Charlee Jo Smith. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, on Saturday, March 24, 2012, at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Garnett, burial to follow in the Garnett Cemetery. The family will be present to greet friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to V.F.W. or American Heart Association and left in care of the funeral home.
