Merla and Leland, I was so saddened to read of your mother's passing. She was one of the sweetest ladies I have ever met. I received cards for the Romine-Johnson-Shellhorn reunion from here for many years and some years a Christmas card. I remember the first time I met her at one of the reunions in Chanute....it was the first one I went to after my mother (Glennice Trembly Owens) died. To Merla & Leland and family:It is so hard to put into words all the many fond memories that my family has of Louise. We worked together for many years at the City Hall. I can still hear her laughing as we changed from one computer system to another, often working late into the night to get things done. She was such a joy to be around as she considered all of us as part of her family. We were neighbors too, so I got the best of everything from her. She was the kindest and most considerate person that I had the honor and privilage of knowing. My heart aches for your loss and ours.

I never had an inkling of how difficult it must have been to raise two children as a single parent, until I became a parent. I still cannot fully appreciate your sacrifices. And you did it with love and affection and a smile.

Although Louise's family doesn't know me, I took Louise's place working for the City of Garnett, Ks. We kept in touch for awhile after I left the job and looked forward to her letters about the town of Garnett and her family. She was so proud of her children and grandchildren. She was such a lovely lady and I'll miss her. She will be truly missed. I'm so sorry to hear of her passing. Heaven is fortunate to have another angel.
