Obituary of Bonnie Maxine Bird
Bonnie Maxine Bird, age 91, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Monday, November 7, 2011, at Golden Heights in Garnett.
Maxine was born on November 22, 1919, at Garnett, Kansas, the daughter of Wilbur M. and Effie (Earl) Mace. She attended local schools and graduated from Garnett High School in 1937.
She was united in marriage to Oliver J. Bird on May 22, 1937, in Iola, Kansas. This union was blessed with two children.
They resided in Decatur, Illinois from 1940 to 1943; Neodesha, Kansas from 1943 to 1948; Omaha, Nebraska from 1948 to 1955; Topeka, Kansas from 1955 to 1977; and Garnett, Kansas from 1977 to the present. She was a homemaker, and enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Oliver Bird in February 2001; a daughter, Vicki Kohler in June 1981; her sisters, Mary Genevieve Mace and Vivian Neece.
She is survived by her son, Terrance L. Bird and spouse Velma of Harlingen, Texas; a sister, Rene E. Morris of Inverness, Illinois; a brother, Wilbur Mace II of Dyer, Nevada; three grandchildren, Charles D. Bird; Rhonda S. Duvall; Christine D. Reynolds; four great grandchildren, Chuck Duvall; Brandi Bird; Laura Duvall; and Darren Bird.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 11, 2011, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett. Burial will follow in the Garnett Cemetery. Family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday evening at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church.
