Obituary of George Tinsley

George Tinsley, age 91, formerly of Welda, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at his home in Checotah, Oklahoma. He was born January 11, 1920, in a farm north of Moran, Kansas, the son of John and Clara (Donaldson) Tinsley. He graduated from Welda High School with the Class of 1939. George entered the Army Air Corps in November 1941. He served in England for most of WII. He married Kathleen McCollam on March14, 1947 in Garnett, Kansas. This union was blessed with two children. He worked as an electrician for the Missouri Pacific Railroad in Osawatomie, Kansas, transferring to Houston, Texas in 1957, then retiring in May 1981. After retirement, they moved to Lake Whitney, Texas for 20 years, relocating to Checotah, Oklahoma to be close to Terry and his family. George was a member of the Good Sam Travel Club and traveled the country some and enjoyed the many hours spent on the lake at Lake Whitney. He enjoyed spending time with his family, many hours spent with his two grandchildren. He traveled to Ft. Myers, Florida to visit his daughter and her husband in winters. George played the guitar with his friends at Lake Whitney. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Clara Tinsley; and one sister, Bertha Tinsley. George is survived by his wife Kathleen Tinsley, of the home; one son, Terry Tinsley and wife Lorraine of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; a daughter, Colleen Gordy and husband Britt of N. Ft. Myers, Florida; two grandchildren, Michael Tinsley and Jessica Tinsley, both of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; one sister, Evelyn Simons of Haysville, Kansas; and a host of family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 9, 2011, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Colony, with burial following in the Colony Cemetery.
