Obituary of Kathy Dougherty

Kathryn Trecel Dougherty, age 38, of Iola, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at Menorah Medical Center, Overland Park, Kansas. She was born on June 12, 1972, in Garnett, Kansas, the daughter of Elmer Tatsch and Paulette (Obermeier) Curry. Kathy grew up in Moran, moving to Iola in 1984. She graduated from Iola High School in 1990. Kathy started the Tatsch Pallet Co. with her father in 1995. Kathy was united in marriage to Mike Dougherty on June 12, 1999, in Iola, Kansas. Kathy owned and operated the Royal Treatment Salon in Iola, doing massage and nails until July 2010. She was also a Mary Kay cosmetics consultant. Kathy was a member of the First Christian Church in Iola. She was a loving mother and devoted wife, who had a very giving heart. She made and sold t-shirts for the benefit of 9/11 victim's families. Kathy started the Adopt a Soldier program, which made and distributed care packages for Iraq servicemen and women. Kathy was preceded in death by her infant son, Gannon Dougherty in January 2011. She is survived by her husband, Mike Dougherty of the home; four sons, Kyler, Braden, Gentry and Grady; two sisters, Lisa Sanford and husband Jeff of Dahlonega, Georgia and Share Tatsch Saenger and husband Roy of Hye, Texas; one brother, Perry Tatsch of Hye, Texas; her father, Elmer Tatsch of Iola, Kansas; her mother Paulette Curry and husband Bob of Linn Valley, Kansas. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Iola First Christian Church in Iola, Kansas, with burial following in the Moran Cemetery. The family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday evening, April 30, 2011, at church. Kathy will lie in state at the funeral home in Moran from 12:00 - 6:00 PM on Sunday and from 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM on Monday.
