Obituary of Robert L. Smith

Robert Lorraine Smith, age 79, of Iola, Kansas, passed away Friday, July 26, 2019, at Ascension Via Christi Saint Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas.  Robert was born March 2, 1940, in Iola, Kansas, to Nathaniel W. Smith and Mildred V. (Rogers) Smith.

Robert attended school in Iola, Kansas.  Robert worked as a painter for Alcorn in Chanute, Kansas, and then he went to work for the pipeline, retiring from Southern Star Pipeline in 1987.

Robert and Lillian Howard were married August 23, 1965, in Iola, Kansas.

Robert liked to watch sports, western movies, Wheel of Fortune, The Price Is Right, and some other shows on television.  He loved to cut grass and keep a beautiful lawn, and he was particularly fond of his weeping willow tree.  Robert enjoyed sitting in the park and also at the river.  He loved watching his grandkids’ activities.  Robert was a very active grandpa.  He enjoyed eating at Golden Corral, Ourr’s Family Dining, and China Palace.  Robert was faithful in visiting his mom daily.  

Robert was preceded in death by his father; and two brothers, Ronald Dean Smith and Nathaniel Smith.

Robert is survived by his wife, Lillian, of the home; son, Charles, Iola, Kansas; daughter, Elizabeth Roberta Smith, Wichita, Kansas; mother, Mildred Smith, Shawnee, Kansas; grandchildren, Jayla Smith, Wichita, Kansas, Cameron Victoria Smith, Wichita, Kansas, Jayden Hale, Edmond, Oklahoma; brothers, Larry Smith, Missouri, Roger Smith, Kansas; sister, Carmen Williams, Shawnee, Kansas; Uncle Harvey Rogers, Iola, Kansas; and a host of other family members and lots of friends.

A visitation will be held Friday, August 2, 2019, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in The Venue at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 1883 US Highway 54, Iola, Kansas.  A funeral service honoring Robert’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 3, 2019, at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Iola, Kansas.  Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, Iola, Kansas.
