Obituary of Barbara Joan Dunlap

Barbara Joan Dunlap, 89, Great Bend, Kansas, formerly of Kincaid, Kansas, passed away Friday, June 14, 2019, at Woodhaven Care Center, Ellinwood, Kansas.

Joan was born June 19, 1929, at Kincaid, Kansas, daughter of Vern and Helen (Main) Burris.  She graduated from Kincaid High School in 1947.

She was united in marriage to Lawrence Dunlap December 2, 1948, at Kincaid.  This union was blessed with one son, Michael.

During their marriage, Lawrence and Joan lived and worked many places. They loved to ride motorcycles and travel in their RV, wintering in Arizona after retirement. They returned to Kincaid and Joan's last career job was as the City Clerk of Kincaid. She cherished her dogs, Cody, Westley and Taffy. She and Lawrence loved spending time with the grandsons and attending their events, especially summer baseball.

She loved going out to eat, especially to Chicken Annie's for the fried chicken and loved anything with shrimp. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed sewing for family and friends for many years. In Kincaid, she and Lawrence enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the campground listening to old-time country music.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence Dunlap; son, Michael Dunlap; sister, Marjorie Bruce; brothers, James Burris and Earl Burris

She is survived by three grandsons, Bret (Patti) Dunlap, Ellsworth, Kansas, Trent (Erin) Dunlap, Manhattan, Kansas, and Jeff (Ginny) Dunlap, Smith Center, Kansas;  siblings, Florence Hall, Springfield, Missouri, Joyce (Lee) Salmans, Elkhorn, Nebraska, Larry (Peggy)Burris, Bucklin, Kansas, John (Esther) Burris, Derby, Kansas, and Frank (Sande) Burris, Larned, Kansas; great-grandchildren, Kaden and Madison Dunlap, Manhattan and Daxton, Jackson and A.J. Dunlap, Smith Center; step great-grandchildren, Kevin Rhamy and Krystal Free and one step great-great-granddaughter, Lucy Rhamy; brother-in-law, Dee Dunlap, Leon, Kansas; sister-in-law, Sarah Burris, Hutchinson, Kansas; many nieces, nephews and cousins who are dear to her heart as well as many friends, especially her friends and neighbors at Cedar Park Place in Great Bend. She was also grateful to her many caregivers from the past few years.

She is also survived by her beloved four-legged friend, her fluffy little dog, Taffy.

Graveside services will be held at the Kincaid Cemetery, Kincaid, Kansas, with inurnment to follow at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2019.

Memorials are suggested to the Golden Belt Animal Shelter of Great Bend, Kansas or to ACARF (Allen County Animal Rescue Facility) and left in care of the funeral home.

Kincaid was always home to Joan. She is home now with her parents, husband and son.
