Obituary of Rosalie Schafer

On Sunday, April 28, 2019, at age 80, Rosalie Lorie (Stites) Schafer, one of God’s beautiful souls, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior. She held a deep and abiding Christian faith.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, Rosalie’s caring and gentle nature brightened the lives of those around her. Her birthday and anniversary cards were legendary. Many hearts were cheered every year when they received one of Rosalie’s hand-written cards.

Rosalie was born on March 30, 1939. She grew up on a farm in rural Linn County, Kansas. In 1957, she graduated from Parker High School. Two years later, Rosalie married Charles B. Schafer of Fort Scott, Kansas.

Partners for nearly sixty years, Charles and Rosalie lived near Amoret, Missouri, before moving to Richmond, Kansas in 1968. They raised their sons in Richmond and called the community home for more than fifty years. From 1973 to 2002, Rosalie loved caring for residents when she worked in the kitchen at the Oak Haven Nursing Home in Richmond. Charles and Rosalie remained long-time members of the Richmond United Methodist Church.

Rosalie was preceded in death by her parents, Harlan and Nina Stites, and her older brother, Fred Richard Stites. She is survived by her husband, Charles Schafer; and her brother Floyd Stites, and his wife, Mary, of Socorro, New Mexico. Other survivors include her sons and their children. David Schafer, his wife Valerie, of Stonewall, Texas, and his step-daughters Sandra Jacoby and Cindy Jacoby. Dan Schafer, his wife Konnie, of Plainview, Texas, and their children, Galvan and Whitney Schafer; Daniel and Katie Schafer and their sons Bennett and Beau; Kassie Schafer, and Harlan Schafer. Joe Stites and his wife Mindy, of Wellsville, Kansas, and their children Joseph and Ava.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, May 2, at the Richmond United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Richmond Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service in Garnett.  Memorials contributions can be made to the Richmond United Methodist Church.  Condolences may be sent to the family at www.feuerbornfuneral.com.
