Obituary of Lana L Tucker
A faithful Christian, Lana Lureen Tucker, age 76, of Garnett, Kansas, joined our Heavenly Father on Sunday, March 31, 2019, at Richmond Healthcare and Rehab, Richmond, Kansas, surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born September 16, 1942, in Independence, Missouri, the daughter of Harvey and Dorothy (Lacy) Swope. Lana began kindergarten at the age of four, skipping first grade and graduating from Rich Hill High School, Rich Hill, Missouri, at the age of 16. Upon graduating, she worked at Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company. Lana started working for United Telephone in the Garnett office before being transferred to the Gardner location, which is now Sprint. She traveled with the company as a computer programmer for more than 30 years before retiring. Lana then put her professional career on hold to care for her aging parents – when that level of care was no longer required, Sprint, a company which recognized her high-quality of work and knowledge of complex programs, hired her as a subcontractor in 2000, where she worked for nearly a decade.
Lana married John Gordon Thorp Jr. in 1960; this union was blessed with two children. They later divorced. She then married Thomas Tucker in 1985 and he passed away in 1998.
Family was of the utmost importance to Lana and everything she did involved her family. Whether it was fishing and camping outings, girls’ trips to the casino or teaching others to crochet, she cherished making memories with her loved ones. An avid chef, she was known for her delicious baked goods and her irreplaceable potato salad – she never hesitated to share her delicious recipes with her friends and family. A lung cancer survivor, she served as an example for her family to never stop fighting.
Lana was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Dorothy Swope; husband, Thomas Tucker; one sister, Dana Ringberg; and one niece, Myrna Ringberg.
She is survived by her son, John Thorp III and wife Tammy, of Lake Havasu City, Arizona; her daughter, Joni Tucker and husband Tim of Garnett, Kansas; four grandsons, Aaron Tucker and wife Courtney of Garnett, Kansas; Colten Tucker of Iola, Kansas; Tanner Thorp of Arizona; and Dathan McMurtrey and wife Susan of Gas, Kansas; three great grandchildren, Ryden, Rilya and Deakon; one sister, Myrna Thorp and husband Tom of Rich Hill, Missouri; one brother-in-law, Gordon Ringberg of Nevada, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews.
