Obituary of James C. Swogar
James C. Swogar, age 76, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on January 16, 2009 at the Colmery O'Neil VAMC, Topeka, Kansas.
He was born April 17, 1932, in Drexel, Missouri, the son of Melvin Swogar and Florence (Castor) Swogar. He grew up around Paola and Iola area before moving to Texas.
He married JoAnne Brownlee on May 17, 1954 in Paola, Kansas, and this union was blessed with four children.
James joined the United States Navy from 1952-1954, serving as a flight mechanic in San Diego, California. He enjoyed riding and breaking horses most of his life. He was a welder by trade before retiring in 1991.
He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW.
James was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnne Swogar April 1994; his son, Steve Swogar in May 2006, two sisters and one brother.
He is survived by one son, John Swogar of Olathe, Kansas; two daughters, Nancy Swogar of Olathe, Kansas, Coleen Evans of Garnett, Kansas; one daughter-in-law Kathy Swogar of Garnett, Kansas; four grandchildren, Gunnar Swogar, Samantha Evans, McKenzie Evans, and Shylah Erskin; and two great granddaughters, Emily Erskin, seven years and Miss Emma Harvey, due in February.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Garnett, Kansas, Burial to follow at the Lane Cemetery, Lane, Kansas. The family will be present to greet friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Monday evening.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Garnett VFW, in lieu of flowers.
