Obituary of Robert L. Garver

Robert L. "Bob" Garver, age 90, of Iola, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at his home. Bob was born April 8, 1928, in rural Moran, Kansas, to Samuel Lester Garver and Cora Victoria (Hufferd) Garver. Bob graduated from Iola High School in 1946. Bob served his country during WWII in the United States Navy. Bob and Mary Coleman were married on March 26, 1948, in Iola, Kansas. They later divorced. Bob and Carol Japhet were married on November 26, 1982, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Bob worked at Leigh Portland Cement until the cement plant closed in 1970. He then opened his own upholstry shop. Bob owned Garver's Sale and Service, where he sold and serviced sewing machines in Iola and later in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Bob served as an Allen County Commissioner from 1970 to 1982. He managed a rock quarry business in Arkansas. Bob was a people-person; he never met a stranger. He is remembered for always being a hard worker and an avid collector of tools. Bob liked garage sales and auctions. Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Carol; his parents; one brother, Lester (Jr.) Garver; one sister, Ilene Steele; one daughter-in-law, Sandra Garver; one grandson, David Garver; and one great-great grandson, Bishop Bruce. Bob is survived by one son, Steven Garver, Iola, Kansas; three daughters, Susan Garver, Gas, Kansas, Sandra Ryman and husband, Russell, Iola, Kansas, Tamara Call, Topeka, Kansas; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; and numerous other relatives. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 22, 2019, at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, Iola, Kansas. Burial with military honors will follow in Highland Cemetery, Iola, Kansas.
