Obituary of Berneice L Peterson

Berneice L. Peterson, age 85, of Greeley, passed away on Sunday, December 9, 2018, at the Anderson County Hospital, Garnett.

 

She was born November 22, 1933, in Richmond, Kansas, the daughter of William and Mary (Wolken) Scheckel.  She attended high school in Greeley, Kansas. 

 

Berneice married Charles L. “Chuck” Peterson on November 22, 1954 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Greeley.  This union was blessed with two sons, Mike and Alan.

 

Her passion was sewing and painting pictures, crocheting, knitting and working out in the garden.  Berneice and Chuck especially enjoyed taking drives and checking crops often.  Berneice really enjoyed being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.   She was a member of the Garnett V.F.W. Post #6397 Auxiliary; St. John’s Catholic Church and Altar Society, and the Zig-Zag Sewing Club.

 

Berneice worked at H.D. Lee in Ottawa; was a cook at St. John’s School; but most of all supported the family and living on the farm.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mary Scheckel; husband, Chuck Peterson on January 17, 2013; four brothers, Charles Scheckel, Norbert Scheckel, Gilbert Scheckel, and Ambrose Scheckel.

 

Berneice is survived by her sons, Mike Peterson and wife Mary of Ottawa, Kansas; Alan Peterson and wife Darla of Greeley, Kansas; six grandchildren, Amanda Allen and husband Lucas; Lars Peterson and Mychal Peterson, Ashley Peterson, Megan Peterson, and Adam Peterson; seven great grandchildren; one brother, Laverne Scheckel of Garnett, Kansas; three sisters, Elsie Kratzberg of Greeley, Kansas; Mildred Schommer of Iola, Kansas; Eva Vinton of Arkansas; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, December 15, 2018, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Greeley, with burial to follow in the St. Boniface Cemetery, Scipio.  A rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m., on Friday evening with visitation following at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Garnett. 

 

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Boniface Cemetery Fund.
