Obituary of James Richard Bird

James Richard (Dick) Bird, age 68, of Yates Center, Kansas, passed away December 1, 2018, at Olathe Hospice, Olathe, Kansas.

Dick was born on December 15, 1949, in Clifton Springs, New York, to Harold J. Bird and Doris A. (Shantz) Bird. Dick graduated from the Clifton Springs High School and attended two years of technical school.  He served his country in the United States Air Force during Vietnam.  He worked as a postal technician for the United States Postal Service, retiring in 2009.

Dick was known for his good cooking, especially meatloaf. Dick enjoyed old movies and reading books. He loved his four-legged friends, Morocco and Lady. Dick liked watching the Chiefs and the Royals on television. Dick and Kathy loved spending time together.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents and numerous brothers and sisters.

Dick is survived by his wife, Kathy, of the home; one sister, Betty Steel and husband, Bill, Waterloo, New York; three step-children, Rhonda, Angela, and Vincent; and numerous other relatives.

Dick's wishes were to be cremated. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
