Obituary of Max Richard Spillman
Max Richard Spillman, age 89, Moran, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, November 29, 2018, at the Moran Manor, Moran, Kansas. Max was born September 20, 1929, on a farm near Mildred, Kansas, to Charlie Spillman and Vida Lenora (Majors) Spillman.
Max attended school in Mildred, Kincaid, and graduated from Moran High School in 1947. Max was a farmer and stockman his entire life. Max served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956, where he worked on the first guided-missile program in Germany.
Max met and married Velma Robb of Elsmore, Kansas, on June 15, 1957, in Moran, Kansas. The Spillmans made their home on a farm north of Moran for 61 years.
Max was a hard worker who dedicated his life to farming and raising livestock. He enjoyed country music and going to Branson, Missouri.
Max was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Roland and Lee Spillman; and three sisters, Eileen Rayburn and twins, Helen and Hazel Spillman.
Max is survived by his wife, Velma, of the home; two sons, James Spillman, Moran, Kansas, Samuel Spillman and wife, Nealie, Pittsburg, Kansas; three daughters, Joyce Storrer, Moran, Kansas, Phyllis Cooper and husband, Matt, Moran, Kansas, Beth Hurd and husband, Rich, Havana, Kansas; six grandchildren, Matthew Thyer and wife, Jacie, Iola, Kansas, Zach Caresio and wife, Hannah, Manhattan, Kansas, Samantha Kudrick and husband, Kelly, Coffeyville, Kansas, Shawn Storrer, Pittsburg, Kansas, Misty Storrer, Moran, Kansas, Luke Spillman, Pittsburg, Kansas; three step-grandchildren, Bo Hughes, Pittsburg, Kansas, Victoria Roberts, Emporia, Kansas, Christopher Bowman, Moran, Kansas; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Gillham, Humboldt, Kansas, Janice Culbertson, Yates Center, Kansas; his beloved four-legged friend, Jake; and numerous other relatives.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, December 3, 2018, in The Venue at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, Iola, Kansas. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, December 4, 2018, in the Fairview Cemetery, 4313 West Virginia Road, Moran, Kansas. Burial will follow the graveside service.
