Obituary of Leo F. Sommer

Leo F. Sommer, age 86, of Greeley, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2018, at his home. He was born on May 5, 1932, in Lane, Kansas. Leo was the eighth of ten children of Louis and Theresa (Schraml) Sommer. Leo grew up in Greeley and attended school at St. John's and Greeley High School. Leo was united in marriage to Dorothy M. Rommelfanger on October 26, 1954, at St. John's Catholic Church in Greeley, Kansas. This union was blessed with five sons. Leo began his career as a welder, working for Joe Humbert in Greeley. He then worked at Taylor Forge in Paola and at BEHM in Osawatomie. Leo worked ten years as a maintenance man for the City of Greeley until retiring in 1994. Leo was a Mr. Fixit to many of the residents of Greeley. He could fix or repair almost anything, and was always willing to lend a hand. Leo was preceded in death by his parents; eight siblings, Theresa Katzer, Louis Sommer, Harry Sommer, John Sommer, Dick Sommer, Paul Sommer, Anna Marie Wolken, and Mary Rockers. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Sommer, of the home; his sons, Mark Sommer and wife Becky of Tecumseh, Kansas, Gary Sommer and wife Beki of Merrifield, Minnesota, Kenny Sommer and wife Cindy of Paola, Kansas, Jim Sommer and wife Debbie of Greeley, Kansas, Dave Sommer and wife Danielle of Dillon, Colorado; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one sister, Margie Morgan of Greeley, Kansas; and one brother-in-law, Martin Rockers of Greeley. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, November 17, 2018, at St. John's Catholic Church, Greeley, Kansas. Burial will follow in the St. John's Cemetery, Greeley. A rosary will be held at 6:30 PM Friday evening at St. John's Church, followed by visitation at the St. John's Hall.
