Dear Aunt Hilda and girls, Years pass so fast without seeing each other but when I seen you, Nancy and Uncle Don at Dad's it was like yesterday, you both never changed. With your love and kind hearts. I can't remember Uncle Don without a smile and of course always teasing. I can still fill the excitement driving up the lane to Grandma and Grandpa's farm knowing the fun we would have with Uncle Don and all (going to the barn was the best). Uncle Don has let so many stories, jokes, and teasing behind he will never be forgotten. I love you all.

Everyone keeps saying "You have not written anything yet"
Everytime I sit down to write I tear up. I am so proud to have had an uncle as "Uncle Don" His laughter will ring forever in my ears! I am go grateful for Nancy for bringing Uncle Don and Aunt Hilda to Pennsylvania in October. I remember the time I left Uncle Don speechless (and that was no easy feat with his quick wittedness - not sure if that is a word). Uncle Don, Aunt Hilda, Charlie and Ruth came to PA for a visit. We were sitting around the dinner table and Uncle Don ask me, "What do you do at the dairy, Robin?" I said, "Milk the cows" I believe his mouth dropped for a moment and Charlie spoke up and said, "I have never seen Don Lankard speechless before"
So I wrote that on the calendar! The picture above is how I will always remember Uncle Don.

Nancy, Helen, Glenda and Janet and families...You have my most sincere sympathy through this very difficult time. Cling to the wonderful memories and cry when you feel like it. There is such a great love between a father and his daughter. Time is a great healer, but life is forever changed. Be there for your Mother, as she will need you more than ever now. I didn't know your Daddy, but he was so handsome and sounded like a true joy to be around. May God hold each of you in the palm of his hand. With Love and Prayers...

Aunt Hilda, Glenda, Janet, Nancy and Helen I am so sorry of the passing of Uncle Don. My prayers are with you and my heart aches with you all. Even though we lived so far away, Uncle Don was always very special to me (as you are too Aunt Hilda). I loved his sense of humor and his stories. As I read the other candles, I am learning so much more about him ( I would have loved to have danced with him etc) but also people are just re-enforcing what I knew and my memories. I will never forget my last trip to Kansas. He took Carla out driving his truck (she was 14) and a few weeks ago I found the crayfish wrapped in a papertowel in a old shoebox in the back of a drawer that they found and he sent home with Marianne. I am so thankful that I got to visit with you, Nancy and Uncle Don at Dad's this fall. He was a wonderful person, and will be missed by all. We all were truly blessed to have him in our lives.

The world had grown a little sadder with Don's passing but my memories of Don will never fade. Don danced like a dreamboat and always made me feel graceful when we danced together. Don's jokes were funny but it was more fun to watch him tell his stories and see how much of a kick HE got out of them. My heart goes out to Hilda and family. My thoughts are with you now and my heart is with you forever.

Hilda, Glenda, Nancy, Janet, Helen and Families,
You all know how much Uncle Don meant to me. I had the privilege of living growing up in my teenage years only a 1/2 mile from them. When I started driving I think it scared them the same as my parents because I drove right pass there house to pick up Nancy Mains. They saved my life many times by letting me finish my shower when the water ran out in our well and I borrowed many a ketchup or mayo bottle too! He let me drive his precious moped too, so he must have trusted me a little! He always told some whoppers and I never knew if he was kidding or not! I will always remember his visits at our house and his big smile! He's with Donnie now and I know he is finally at peace! He was a special man and uncle and I was blessed to have been his niece! Love - Kristy (Krissy to all of you)
