Obituary of Cheryl M. Bures

Cheryl M. Bures, age 71, of Richmond, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2018, at Parkview Heights, Garnett. She was born September 2, 1947, in Clay Center, Kansas, the daughter of LeRoy "Sarge" and Letha (Berrier) Morgison. Cheryl lived in numerous places because her father served in the U.S. Air Force, Navy, and Army. She even had the opportunity to live in Germany for a couple of years. She graduated from Lawrence High School. She met her lifetime partner, Glen Bures, after they were introduced by mutual friends. They married at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence, Kansas, but held their wedding dance at St. Boniface Hall and had to schedule around the KU and K-State football seasons. Cheryl was an avid KU fan and enjoyed watching football and basketball games. She was a voracious collector of angels. She easily had the largest collection in Anderson and Franklin counties. Cheryl made her home in Richmond, Kansas, and became a member of St. Boniface Church. She served on the altar society, parish council, Director of Religious Education, and a Religion Education Teacher. She was also the ride for the nuns that taught Vacation Bible School. She was an active member of TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly) and the local bowling league. She organized an annual hog roast at the family farm and loved visiting with all the family and friends that attended. She was known for her generosity and friendship. She was quick to offer her gift of time, but also loved giving physical gifts. Her kitchen was her happy place, she could be found there preparing meals for her family and friends while watching the Hallmark Channel. Her coconut crunch dessert was a staple at countless community dinners and will be hard to replace. Cheryl always wanted to be a grandmother. It was her one goal in life. She had a wonderful relationship with her own grandmothers and wanted to pass that along to her own seven grandchildren. She was quick with the "grandma veto" and could be counted on to spoil her grandkids with candy, ice cream and gifts. She was preceded in death by her parents, LeRoy "Sarge" and Letha Morgison; and brother-in-law, Jerry Coufal. Cheryl is survived by her husband, Glen Bures, of the home; daughter, Mary Sumner and husband Jason of Garnett; two sons, Philip Bures and wife Reah of Garnett and Christopher "Chris" Bures and wife Rachel of Kansas City, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Isaiah Bures, Avery Sumner, Morgan Sumner, Abigail Bures, Josie Sumner, Marlee Bures and Sutton Bures; two sisters, Linda Rettig and husband, Floyd of Hanover, Kansas and Sandra "Sandy" Hart and husband, Stephen of Emporia, Kansas; three brothers, Daryl Morgison and wife, Dee of Baldwin City, Kansas; Michael "Mike" Morgison and Joseph "Joe" Morgison and wife, Ronda all of Lawrence; eight nieces and nephews and numerous relatives. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, November 5, 2018 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Scipio, Kansas. Burial will follow in the St. Boniface Cemetery. The family will greet friends following a 6:00 PM Rosary on Sunday evening at the church in Scipio. Memorial contributions may be made to Hope And Love of the Laity fund (for Scipio) or to W.I.N.G.S. and may be left in care of the funeral home.
