Obituary of Mahlon J. Beachy

Mahlon J. Beachy, age 87, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, October 18, 2018, at Fontana, Kansas.

 

He was born June 23, 1931, in Garnett, Kansas, the son of Jonas S. and Lizzie (Overholt) Beachy.

 

Mahlon enjoyed hunting and fishing. He had a kind heart, and was known for his gentle, easygoing spirit. His twinkling blue eyes and his smile will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

 

He was a life-long member of the Amish Church of Garnett.

 

Mahlon lived on the home place for his entire life, until he had a stroke in January 2013, and was a care-giver for his mother and sister, Susie for many years. For the last two years of his life, he made his home with his nephew and family, Raymond and Vera Yoder. At the time of his death, he was being cared for by a private caregiver in Fontana, Kansas.

He worked for Floyd Troyer in Garnett for many years and was known for his carpenter skills.

Mahlon was preceded in death by his parents, Jonas and Lizzie Beachy; two brothers, Simon Beachy and Alvin Beachy; four sisters, Barbara Yoder, Susie Beachy, Minnie Yoder, and Anna Beachy; three brothers-in-law, Toby Yoder, Tobias Yoder, and Amos Miller; three sisters-in-law, Ione Beachy, Dora Beachy, and Katie Yoder; and several nieces and nephews.

 

He is survived by one brother, Lloyd Beachy and wife Lydia of Carlton, Oregon; two sisters, Bertha Miller of Thomas, Oklahoma; Esther Yoder and husband Ervin of Garnett, Kansas; many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

 

There will be a visitation at the Amish Community Building, 18240 NW 1800 Rd, Garnett, Kansas, on Sunday October 21, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

 

A wake service will be held at the Amish Community Building on Monday, October 22, 2018, at 7:00 p.m.

 

Funeral services will be held at 9:00 a.m., at the Amish Community Building on Tuesday, October 23, 2018. Burial to follow in the Amish Cemetery.
