Obituary of Richard Eugene Abbe

Richard Eugene Abbe, age 71, Chanute, Kansas, passed away July 15, 2018, at Diversicare of Chanute. Richard was born June 20, 1947, in Iola, Kansas, to Clarence Abbe and Ellen Vanderslice Abbe. Richard attended school in Iola.

Richard and Mary Chapman were married on March 1, 1979, in Iola.

Richard was in the Kansas Army National Guard, serving from 1974 to 1980. Richard worked various jobs including construction and plumbing.

Richard is remembered for always working. When not working, he enjoyed fishing. Richard had an awesome sense of humor, and he liked making others laugh.

Richard is survived by his wife of the home; sons, Thomas McClannhan, Nevada, Missouri, Justin McClannhan, Kansas City, Kansas, and Tony Greer, Parsons; one daughter, Sabrina Greer, Iola; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Albert Abbe, George Abbe, and Carl Abbe.

A memorial service honoring Richard’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 11, 2018, at the Iola Baptist Temple, 426 North Second Street, Iola, Kansas.  Inurnment will be at a later date.

Memorials are suggested to the Allen County Animal Rescue Facility (ACARF), and may be left at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, Iola, Kansas.
