Obituary of Lowana Minckley

Lowana Minckley, age 78, of Colony, Kansas, passed away on July 9, 2018 at her home.

Lowana Elvena Minckley was born on December 4, 1939 at Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa, Kansas to Olin and Lowana (Sherer) Minckley.

Lowana attended the Ottawa Public School system, graduating from Ottawa High School in 1956. While a student, she participated in various school activities and was well liked. She liked dancing and taught tap and ball room dancing at her home in Ottawa, between the ages of 15-17. As part of that, she would have dance recitals twice a year, where her students performed, showing what they had learned. She married Robert Pardon in 1963 and was granted a divorce in 1967.

Lowana got a job with the Bell Telephone Company in Ottawa shortly after high school, as an operator. She later transferred to Denver, Colorado, with the same company, eventually moving back to Lawrence, Kansas and then to Tempe, Arizona in 1968. After being an operator for ten years, she became an auditor for the phone company and traveled throughout Arizona, examining records at the various offices, and providing performance reviews. She retired from the phone company in 1990 and moved to Colony in 1999.

She was a cat lover, as her friends will remember, having several while living in Colony. She took care of any animal in need and had a gift for growing things. She loved to laugh and to make others laugh. She will always be remembered for her quick wit, the sparkle in her eye, and her willingness to help others.

Lowana was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Wendel Minckley.

She leaves behind a brother, Charles "Chuck" Minckley of Arizona, many nieces and nephews in Arizona, and many other friends, neighbors and relatives.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Friday, July 13, 2018, at the High Point Cowboy Church in Colony, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Colony Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to ACARF (Allen County Animal Rescue Facility) and left in care of the funeral home.
