Obituary of Robert E Greve
Robert Eugene "Bob" Greve, age 93, of Chanute, Kansas, passed away on May 9, 2018, at Via Christi Hospital, Pittsburg, Kansas. Bob was born on December 15, 1924, in Chanute to Clarence Greve and Louise Friederich Greve.
Bob and Velma "June" Byers Greve were married on June 22, 1948, in Chanute, Kansas. June preceded him in death on February 11, 2011.
Bob attended school in Chanute. He worked at various jobs and industries in the area, retiring after working many years for Merchants Supply in Iola, Kansas.
Bob was a lifetime member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Chanute. Bob will be long remembered as a devoted Catholic and always praying for others.
He served his country in World War II from 1944 to 1946 as a rifleman in France, Germany, and Belgium as a member of Company F, 385th Infantry Regiment, 76th Division. Bob participated in the Rhineland and Central European Campaigns. Bob earned and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, EAMET Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, and the Victory Ribbon. He was honorably discharged as a Master Sergeant.
Bob grew up on a farm in Chanute, where he developed skills that later allowed him to work on automobiles. Bob is remembered for his kind smile, love of family, spending time with his friends, and working on vintage cars. He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather.
Bob is survived by his son, Gary Greve and wife, Susie, Iola; his daughter, Linda Greve and husband, Jim Edson, Chanute; two sisters, Marjorie Hobbs, Buffalo, Ilene McCoy and husband, Gerald, Shawnee Mission; one brother, Richard Greve and wife, Jean, Chanute; one sister-in-law, Phyllis Greve, Chanute, one granddaughter, Jennifer McDermeit, Iola; three great-granddaughters, Lauren, Hallie, and Madelynn McDermeit, Iola.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and two brothers, Wayne and Merle Greve.
A Rosary will be recited at 10:15 A.M., followed by a Mass of Catholic Burial at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Chanute, Kansas. Burial will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Chanute, Kansas.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Patrick's Catholic Church Building Fund, Chanute, Kansas, and may be left at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, Iola, Kansas.
