Obituary of Ronald L. Walters
Ronald L. Walters, age 69, of Iola, Kansas, passed away on April 19, 2018, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Ron was born on April 15, 1949, in Gas, Kansas, to Loyd Jr. Walters and Doris Jean Ogle Walters. Ron graduated from the Iola High School in 1967. He attended Allen County Community Junior College, Iola. Ron enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and served his country from 1969 to 1971, where he graduated as a heavy equipment operator and a diesel mechanic. Ron received the Marines marksmanship medal for his sharp-shooting.
Ron worked at H & M Market, where they met while both were still in school. Susan went there often to see his beautiful eyes and smile, and the rest is history as they were married August 7, 1972, in Miami, Oklahoma. Ron often joked with Susan that their marriage was only good in Oklahoma!
Ron worked several jobs during his lifetime, including 30+ years as a local meat cutter; diesel mechanic and maintenance at D of K Vaults and Crest Schools; and after retiring Ron was a bus driver for ANW Cooperative pre-school.
Ron is remembered for his love of motorcycles, jeeps, hotrods, and car shows. He liked to attend automotive swap meets. He passed his love of motorcycles and automobiles on to his son and grandson. Ron loved to fix things; he could build anything. Ron could be presented with a box of parts and literally put it back together in working order. Ron enjoyed vacationing and camping.
Ron is survived by his wife, Susan, of the home; his son, Michael Lee Walters, Iola; his grandson, Travis Lee Walters, Iola; his brother, Steve Walters and wife, Anita, Galva, Kansas.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Connie Raney; and his brother, Doug Walters.
