Obituary of Elizabeth Ann Friskel

Elizabeth Ann (Betty) Friskel, age 85, passed away April 14, 2018, at her home in Iola, Kansas. Betty was born May 17, 1932, in Pittsburg, Kansas, to Martin Lero and Mary Beitzinger Lero. She grew-up in the Pittsburg-Frontenac area, where she attended and graduated from Saint Mary's School (now Colgan) in 1950. Betty married Ernest Donovan Stahl on June 9, 1951, in San Diego, California. They returned to Pittsburg where they lived until moving to Iola in August, 1972. Mr. Stahl preceded her in death on May 13, 1993. Betty married Paul A. Friskel on November 2, 2001, at Saint John's Catholic Church, Iola, Kansas. Mr. Friskel preceded her in death on December 26, 2014. Betty was a homemaker and she worked several years for Herff-Jones Company in Iola, retiring in 1995. Betty was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and St. John's Altar Society in Iola. Betty loved quilting, sewing, her flower garden, family dinners, and famously known for her French cookies and for her roast and kanadels. She loved Colorado and spending time there with family and friends. Betty was always thoughtful of others before herself. Betty is survived by four sons, Marty D. Stahl and wife, Lori, Pittsburg, Curt Stahl and wife, Jennifer, Iola, Carl Stahl and wife, Traci, LaHarpe, and Kenneth Stahl and wife, Trish, Colorado Springs, Colorado; two daughters, Mary B. Erbert and husband, Don, Iola, and Cathy A. Stahl, Iola; one step-son, Mark Friskel and wife, Nicky, Gilbert, Arizona; three step-daughters, Mary Ann Regehr and husband, Walter, Iola, Paula Kimberlin and husband, Casey, Buffalo, and Elaine Howey and husband, Mike, Wichita; three sisters, Therese LaForge, El Dorado, Margaret Browning, Fresno, California, and Leona Hoskins and husband, Dan, Osawatomie; eighteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; fifteen step-grandchildren; and fourteen step-great-grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her two husbands; her parents; one grandson, Kent Erbert; and one sister, Virginia Jones. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, April 18, 2018, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Iola, Kansas. A Rosary will be recited for Betty at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 19, 2018, at St. John's Catholic Church, Iola. A Funeral Mass will follow the Rosary at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to St. John's Catholic Church, Iola, Kansas, and may be left at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service.
