Obituary of Elizabeth Reddins

Elizabeth "Lizzy" Reddins, age 92, of Iola, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, March 18, 2018, at her home with her daughter, Roz and grandson, Maurice by her side. Lizzy was the first of seven children born to Cornelous Slaughter and Letha (Lyle) Slaughter. She was born on May 18, 1925 in Coffeyville, Kansas. Lizzy attended the Cleveland school and the Coffeyville school system. Lizzy would often remind her siblings that she was the small one but she was the boss. Some of her friends would call her boss lady. She could be quiet at times and other times she could be witty! Lizzy married Alfonzo Carroll, Sr. and three children were born to their union. They later divorced. She married Earl W. Reddins in December 1964. Lizzy loved to read her bible, watch game shows and the animal planet. She liked to crochet and also do embroidery, quilting, and sewing. Lizzy liked to listen to music and she loved to travel and visit family. She loved to fly. She was a lifetime member of The Church of God in Christ, where she was saved and baptized into God's Kingdom. Lizzy was a member of First Church of God in Christ Family Worship Center in Coffeyville, Kansas, and Chanute Church of God in Christ in Chanute. She worked as a Lab Aide at the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center for 23 years until she retired in 1985. Lizzy was preceded in death by her husband, Earl, in 1983; daughter, Inez Patricia Jennings; granddaughter, Loren Elizabeth Myles; grandson, Darius Reddins; her parents; and brother, Cornelous Slaughter, Jr. She is survived by her nine children, Patricia Ann Henderson of Las Vegas, Nevada, Alfonzo Carroll, Jr. of Coffeyville, Kansas, and Lola M. Hanif and husband, Mohamand of Oakland, California, Earl "Sonny" Reddins, Jr. and wife, Pauline of Caney, Kansas, Sandra Brown of Buena Park, California, Sharon Linda Mendez and husband, Roger of Richmond, California, Vanessa McFarland of Richmond, California, Craig Reddins of Coffeyville, Kansas, and Rosalind "Roz" Reddins-Leapheart of the home in Iola, Kansas; two sisters, Iola Lois Robinson and Shirley Jean Green of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and brother, Clifford Slaughter of Albuquerque; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends and extended family. A special note of appreciation for Elizabeth's care from Clifford, Shirley, Lois and Lola while in New Mexico, and to her special caregivers, Joyce, Maurice, Helen and Laffeyette. Appreciations from the family for all the phone calls, kind words and prayers for our family. Your acts of kindness are all greatly appreciated. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, March 30, 2018, at the First Church of God in Christ, 2802 West First St., Coffeyville, Kansas.
