Obituary of Betty Darlene Masters
Betty Darlene Masters, age 87, of Chanute, Kansas passed away on Friday, January 26, 2018 at Heritage Health Care in Chanute.
Betty Darlene (Barber) Masters was born April 23, 1930 to Julia (Hodgson) Barber and Glen Barber at Americus, Kansas. She loved growing up in the Flint Hills around Eskridge, Kansas where she spent most of her young life. She attended grade school at Chalk, Kansas and then high school at Eskridge.
On October 15, 1945 Betty was united in marriage at Emporia, Kansas to Dean Masters of Burlingame, Kansas. Their union was blessed with eight children. While Dean served in the Air Force they lived in several places including, Cheyenne, Wyoming, Shreveport, Louisiana, Waukomis, Oklahoma and Portsmouth, New Hampshire. They spent the last 45 years living in Savonburg, Hepler, Stark and Moran. Betty's purpose in life was being a loving wife and a stay at home, loving mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Dean Masters on December 9, 2008; her parents; two grandsons, Troy Masters and Jacob Masters; two sons-in-law, Lester Herrick and John Starliper; two sisters, Nina Roberts and Dolores DeWitt; and brother, Bob Barber.
Betty is survived by her three sons, Thomas Masters and wife, Gina of Mayetta, Kansas, Dean Masters Jr. and wife, Mary, of Independence, Kansas, and Tony Masters and wife, Alicia, of Chanute, Kansas; five daughters, Linda Herrick of Eskridge, Kansas, Kathy Cox and husband, Jim, of Chanute, Kansas, Nancy Starliper of Savonburg, Kansas, Debbie George of Eskridge, Kansas, Diane Meeds and husband, Gayle, of Rogers, Arkansas; 23 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Wilma Barber, of Overbrook, Kansas; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, 344 N. Cedar, Moran, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Moran Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6:00-8:00 PM, Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Moran. Memorial contributions may be made to The Alzheimer's Association and left in care of the funeral home.
