Obituary of David Hermreck
David John Hermreck, age 61, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away at his home on Tuesday, December 19, 2017.
He was born July 2, 1956 in Garnett, Kansas, the oldest child of Floyd and Louann (Landwehr) Hermreck. Dave attended school at St. John's in Greeley where he received strict instructions on how to lector from Sister Christina. He graduated from Garnett High School with the Class of 1974.
Dave married Nancy Mader on September 12, 1981 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Scipio. This union was blessed with four children; Derek, Candace, Amanda and Sennett. They made their home in rural Anderson County where he enjoyed the outdoors and raising livestock. Dave worked construction before working for Anderson County and then Coffey County as the Noxious Weed Director for many years. He then worked for Wal-Mart Distribution until his retirement in 2015.
He was a Certified Bow Hunter's Instructor for 20 years. He received the Buffalo Award, a special award voted on by his fellow instructors given annually. He taught religion class to the youth of Scipio for over ten years. Dave was a member of the Knights of Columbus #2680 where he served as a 3rd Degree Knight, NRA, NALF and a senior member of the KBA. He spent his entire life as a lector at mass. He took great pride and pleasure as a lector for many weddings and funerals. He loved to hunt, fish, and especially enjoyed planting gardens with and for his grandchildren. Dave will be known for many things, such as giving his children and grandchildren nicknames, useless trivia information, his unique culinary skills and oldies music.

He is survived by his wife Nancy Hermreck, of the home; four children, Derek Hermreck and wife Larrissa, Candace Powell and husband Keith, Amanda Sobba and husband Bryan, all of rural Anderson County, Kansas, and Sennett Hermreck of Emporia, Kansas; nine grandchildren, Karson, Kendra, Zane, Wyatt, Haylee, Hudson, Chase, Hayden and Logan; mother Louann Hermreck of Greeley, Kansas, mother-in-law Juliana Mader of Garnett, Kansas; one brother, Tony Hermreck and wife Brenda of Greeley, Kansas; five sisters, Marcia Hall and husband Brian of Garnett, Kansas, Rosalie Rockers and husband Tom of Greeley, Kansas, Paula Lybarger and husband Alan of Overland Park, Kansas, Shirley Hale and husband Richard of Garnett, Kansas, Tina Katzer of Olathe, Kansas; numerous nieces and nephews.
