Charles Edward Uitts, 86, of Chanute passed away Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Heritage Health Care in Chanute. He was born April 1, 1931 to William and Lena (Madison) Uitts. He grew up in Iola and attended school there as a child. He worked on a farm near Welda while attending high school there. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1955. He married Janet Lynn (Sack) Smith in 1974. She preceded him in death in 2007. He made his home in Iola and lived there until 2001 when he moved to Chanute. He worked for 15 years at the Texaco station on State Street in Iola. Charlie is survived by his son, Larry Uitts of Eureka, Kansas, daughter, Angela Guerrero and husband, Rick, of Wichita, son Charles David Uitts of Santa Fe, New Mexico, granddaughters, Britney Benard, Be`le Benard, and Teagen Guerrero, a sister, Maxine Jones, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet, a son, Kyle Jay Smith, his parents, his sisters Pauline Cole, Dodie Dowell, Patricia Longfellow, Lela Copeland, Lucille Herman and Minnie Alberta Uitts, and a brother, Leon Uitts. His burial will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, December 21, 2017 in Highland Cemetery at Iola. Contributions in his memory are suggested to Heritage Health Care. Feuerborn Family Funeral Service of Iola assisted the family with arrangements.
