Obituary of Sandra K Garver
Sandra K. Garver, age 67, of Iola, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at her home after losing her battle with cancer.
Sandra was the first of three children born to Wayne E. and Oleata (Roberts) Hiser. She was born on May 1, 1950 in Iola, Kansas. Growing up Sandy worked as a bookkeeper at the family business, Hiser Implement. She graduated from Iola High School and attended Allen County College. She married Steven L. Garver on August 17, 1968. Their union was blessed with three children, Vicki, Michael and David. They made their first home in Shawnee Mission, Kansas while Steve attended computer-programming school, after which he joined the Air Force. They lived in Japan from 1969 to 1972. They returned to Iola from Japan where Sandy was a licensed daycare provider from her home and later as supervisor of the Allen County College Daycare. After seven and a half years, the day care phased out and Sandy taught ceramics from her home for several years. She participated in craft shows and later opened a store selling her ceramic items. Sandy and Steve then started and ran Iola Computer Products and Iola Graphics for several years. They then co-ran the Super 8 Hotel in Iola for five years until retiring. Sandy participated in volunteer work at her church, caretaker for her parents, and worked at the Senior Thrift Center. Sandy and Steve opened their home to a foreign exchange student for one year.
Sandy was preceded in death by her son, David A. Garver on February 9, 2013; her father, Wayne Hiser; grandparents, George and Florence Hiser, and Joshua and Ollie Roberts; and sister, Debra Hiser.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Steven, of the home; son, Mike Garver; daughter, Vicki Smith and husband, Dewayne; three grandchildren, Benjamin Smith, Dalton Garver, and Kristin Garver; one great-grandson Lincoln Smith; mother, Oleata Hiser; sister, Diana Miller and husband, Allen; and sisters-in-law, Susan Garver, Sandy Garver-Ryman and husband, Russell, and Tammy Call.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, 1883 US Hwy 54, Iola, Kansas 66749. Burial will follow in the Highland Cemetery, Iola, Kansas. The family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Monday, December 4, 2017, at the funeral home.
