Obituary of Wilma Jean Dalsing

Wilma Jean Dalsing, age 88, of Greeley, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at the Olathe Hospice House in Olathe, Kansas.

 

Jean was born on June 11, 1929, at the family home in Scipio, Kansas. She was the fifth of ten children born to Albert and Theresa (Mersman) Kipper. Jean grew up in Scipio, Kansas, attending school there. Following school, Jean worked at Franklin Drug Store in Garnett and at then at the sewing factory in Greeley. One fateful night in 1946 at a Scipio dance marked the beginning of Jean's courtship from her husband to be. On July 7, 1948, she was united in marriage to James B. Dalsing, at the St. Boniface Catholic Church at Scipio, Kansas. They were blessed with eight children and fifty-eight years of marriage before Jim's death October 31, 2006. They made their home in Greeley, where they owned and operated Jim and Jean's from 1964 to 1983. Jean continued to work at the café after they sold it for another twenty-six years. She was an active and faithful member of St. John The Baptist Catholic Church, where she served as Eucharistic Minister and parish Rosary leader for many years. Jean was also an active member of the Altar Society, holding various offices and volunteering many hours for church and school events. She was a charter member of the Greeley Ladies VFW Auxiliary. Jean was an avid supporter of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and she maintained an archive of their accomplishments. She was an avid baseball fan, enjoying everything from a local little league or softball game to the Royals. Jean was accomplished seamstress, making countless clothes for her children. She enjoyed quilting and embroidery. Her grandchildren believe her to be the world's greatest chicken and noodle maker, and her fried chicken was locally renowned. She and Jim enjoyed golf and bowling and traveling, sometimes traveling to bowl and play golf. Jean was never one to sit idle, and she remained active throughout her life, she enjoyed her daily walks around Greeley.

 

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim; grandson, Jason Dalsing; son in law, Bernie Egidy eight siblings, Irene Burbank, Viola Sommer, Jim, Wilbur, Alfred, Ethel Mae Stevenson, Lyle, and Richard.

 

Jean is survived by her children, James A. Dalsing of Leavenworth, Kansas, Diana Lickteig and husband Dean of Greeley, Tom Dalsing and wife Pat of Warrensburg, Missouri, Gene Dalsing of Wichita, Kansas, Kay Egidy of Olathe, Kansas, Cindy Katzer and husband Dan of Paola, Kansas, Becky Sommer and husband Mark of Tecumseh, Kansas, and Mary Jo Dalsing of Greeley, Kansas; twenty-three grandchildren; forty great grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Lickteig and husband Walt of Greeley.

 

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 18, 2017 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Greeley, Kansas. Burial will follow in the St. John's Catholic Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Friday evening following a 6:00 PM, Rosary at the church.
