Dear Marilyn and Family, It is with a heavy heart that I write this letter. I was so saddened to hear of Ron’s passing. While I never met Ron in person, I worked with him on a daily basis for several years from Gates headquarters in Denver. He was such an asset to our Gates team, and he will be missed. I knew that any time I had a problem (and I had them daily!) I could count on Ron to do whatever needed to be done to take care of business. He would see my number come up on his caller ID and answer the phone with, “What now?!” And, I’d say, “Ok, Eeyore, time to get busy!” I had dubbed him Eeyore early on in our acquaintance because when I’d come to him with all the messes I had he’d always sound so gloomy and pessimistic, but in the end he always came through. It got to be our little joke, and he’d always laugh when I said it. Because we worked so closely on a daily basis I was lucky enough to get to know Ron and to hear about his life outside of Gates. The shining light in his life was his family, and his love for you all came through even over the phone and email. He spoke lovingly of you, Marilyn. His devotion and enduring affection for you after 40 years of marriage were truly inspirational for anyone who knows what hard work a marriage can be. He spoke with pride and love of his sons, and with complete delight of his grandchildren. His granddaughters clearly had him wrapped around their fingers! I have an eight year old son, and Ron and I regularly traded anecdotes and pictures via email sharing what the kids were up to. It was always fun to see Sydnea’s dance recital pictures, and Jazzmyn’s smiling face. I feel truly blessed to have worked with him and to have known him as I did. I feel his loss keenly, and know that it’s miniscule compared to what all of you are going through, and will continue to go through. Grief is such a hard road to travel. I pray that as you go through it, you will be able to hold his memory and love close in your hearts. I will continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers, and I wish you peace.
