Obituary of Gerald Lee Ward
Jerry L. Ward, 73, of Moran, Kansas passed away Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Allen County Regional Hospital in Iola due to complications of cancer combined with a car accident.
He was born December 4, 1943 in Fredonia, Kansas to Francis Luck and Leona Pearl (Studebaker) Ward. He grew up in Moran, and graduated from Moran High School in 1962. While there he played several sports, but his greatest loves were playing football and his 1939 Chevrolet. Throughout his life, he attended every home game at Moran until his illness no longer allowed him. Following high school, he raised livestock and created his business repairing and selling automotive bumpers, which made him famous throughout nine Kansas counties as "The Bumper Man." Growing up, he attended church at the Presbyterian Church in Moran. Though he was busy with life for many years, he recognized his need for salvation and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior during his final days on earth.
He married Kathleen Eitel on June 9, 1971 in Gas, Kansas. Together they made their home on the family farm near Moran. They raised their daughter, and actively supported her in 4-H.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy, of the home, a daughter, Kim Longpine and significant other, Andy Babcock, of Chanute, Kansas, grandchildren Mitch Longpine and Amanda Longpine, of Pittsburg, Kansas, and a brother, John Ward of Denver, Colorado, and several cousins. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents.
His funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at Hope Chapel Assembly of God, located 3 miles east of Moran on US Hwy 54. Visitation will be the evening prior from 6:00 to 8:00 at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service in Moran. Burial will follow the service in Moran Cemetery.
