Obituary of Ryan C. Hawley

Ryan C. Hawley, age 45, of Kansas City, Missouri, completed his earthly journey on Sunday, September 3, 2017, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center in Merriam, Kansas. He was born on April 21, 1972, in Denver, Colorado, the eldest son of Lester and Irene Hawley, and older brother to Abe Hawley. After leaving Colorado as a toddler, the family relocated to a farmhouse in Iola, Kansas, where Ryan excelled at being a tree climber, frog catcher, goat wrangler, roller skater, bike rider, and all around curious, sweet, lovable, little boy. He had a head full of curly blonde hair and the chubbiest cheeks you ever had the pleasure to set eyes on. He gave his mom, dad, brother, and family so much joy with his funny and innocent antics. After their time in Iola, the Hawley's moved to the outskirts of Belton, Missouri, where Ryan attended Belton High School. Ryan began a career, alongside his father, in Land Surveying until an unfortunate accident forced him out of the fields. "Ry" had a varied list of interests including a love for motorcycles, guitars, music, and dogs. He had an especially keen interest in vintage watches, Maxfield Parrish prints, scuba diving, and reading. In more recent years, Ryan struggled with a number of challenging health issues but, eventually, the body becomes weary and decides it will no longer carry on. He left us too early, but those of us who knew him will remember his mischievous, jovial, and boisterous, personality. He was quick with a smile and wanted to make others happy and laugh. We will miss Ryan, he will forever remain in our hearts, and he will remain forever young in our fondest memories. Ryan is survived by his father and closest friend, Lester Hawley, and his brother and closest friend, Abram Hawley. He also leaves behind an extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, a grandmother, and friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Irene P. Hawley, his paternal grandparents, maternal grandfather, and his favorite old dog, Leo. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, September 13, 2017, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, 219 S. Oak Street, Garnett, Kansas 66032. Burial will immediately follow at Springfield Cemetery, Garnett, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association and left in care of the funeral home.
