Obituary of Raymond A. Kipper

Raymond A. Kipper, age 92, of Richmond, Kansas, passed away on Monday, August 28, 2017, at Residential Living Center, Garnett. He was born June 10, 1925, at Scipio, Kansas, the son of George W. and Mary (Selter) Kipper. He graduated from Richmond High School, Richmond, Kansas. Raymond joined the United States Navy in 1943 and served in WWII until 1946. Raymond married Lois Jean Figg on December 27, 1947, in Kansas City, Missouri; this union was blessed with five children. He was a purchasing agent for CertainTeed in the Fairfax District in Kansas City, Kansas and retired after 35 years. After retirement, Raymond and Lois moved to Richmond where he worked for Central Heights School District in outdoor landscaping. Raymond loved the great outdoors, including hunting, fishing, gardening, and in general, all wildlife. He was an avid fan of KU Basketball, the Royals and the Chiefs. Raymond especially enjoyed spending time with his family at gatherings and celebrations. He was known for making his infamous peanut brittle at Christmas time and shared it with his family and the hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Kipper; one son, Vernon Kipper; five brothers and three sisters. Raymond is survived by his wife, Lois Kipper of Richmond, Kansas; four children, Robert Kipper and wife Jane of Grand Island, Nebraska; Lois Rude and husband Robert of Richmond, Kansas; George Kipper and wife Penny of Independence, Missouri; and Glenda Glendenning and husband Michael of Richmond, Kansas; Nine grandchildren; Eleven great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, September 1, 2017, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Scipio, with burial to follow in St. Boniface Cemetery. A rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m., on Thursday evening at the church with visitation to follow. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Boniface New Building Fund.
