What a wonderful wonderful lady! Melissa gave her whole life to helping children know about Christ. She has touched so many with her curriculum! We will only find out how many in heaven. I remember when she lost her sight she was afraid of the dark. Now her body is restored and she is with her Lord. I am so happy that Melissa does not have to be afraid of the dark anymore.

I knew Melissa as a co-worker for the Church of the Nazarene. I watched her work her way from an editorial assistant to the Children's Editor.
What a joy to know Melissa.
She's has no more pain and can once again see and meet Jesus fave-to-face! See you again, Melissa!!

I am saddened by the passing of Melissa, but am grateful she is suffering no more. I connected with her through work at the Nazarene Headquarters, as well as at Kansas City First Church of the Nazarene (KCFC). While our work assignments did not often interface (because we were in different offices and assignments), we did serve together on the Children's Ministry Council, VBS, and in other areas at KCFC. Melissa was such a dedicated leader in whatever endeavors she pursued. We were blessed to have her expertise in serving as the director of our VBS on more than one occasion. She offered much wisdom and confidence in that assignment, and her love for the kids was always evident. Her absence from our church ministries has left a huge gap that I'm not sure anyone else could ever fill. We were blessed to have her among us for many years. I pray the Lord will offer comfort and peace to all the family in these days of remembering her life while grieving her death. I am comforted that she is in Heaven with our God, and that I will see her again. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I am so sorry for your loss. I knew Melissa when I attend Kansas City First Church several years ago. She always seemed to have a smile on her face and a willingness to help out. She will be greatly missed. Still it is hard to be sad when I consider where she is, who she is with and what she is seeing. I can only imagine.
Keeping your family in my prayers,

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Melissa. I was privileged to work at the Nazarene Publishing House and make her aquatiance. She was a very bright women and a terrific editor of Children's curriculum. She was sweet, had a lovely smile and great send of humor!
She was a great storyteller and entertained us at a party I attended that my daughter had!
But most of all she had a great heart for children to know God's Word! I was so sorry when she became so ill. I have missed her at KCFC. My condolences to her family!
She is with her Lord now, and I cannot wish her back!

Lavon and Lynn,
We are sorry to hear of your loss. I remember all those family visits we had as kids at Grandpa and Grandma's house in Iola, but that was so long ago. Now your Melissa too has gone to heaven. Our family has such a great Christian heritage. Melissa carries that long line of Christian testimony right into heaven with her. Heaven will be a wonderful place to experience the very best that Christ has for us, throughout eternity. She is missed here and welcomed in heaven. Our prayers are with your family.

We are sorry to see of Melissa's passing. We rest, as did she, in the sure and certain hope of the resurrection.
I (Joseph) saw Melissa regularly for a number of years when she worked as Children's Editorial Director, and was impressed with her conviction of the importance of biblical and biblically-based curriculum for the children of God's Church, and her care in seeing that that was what her department produced. Then she became a student of mine at NTS. I admired her courage and determination in completing her degree program, even as physical impediments arose. She did not let them stop her, and I was happy with and for her in that success.
With all her family and friends, we rejoice in the memories of Melissa's life in Christ and in His Church. May God's comfort be with all in this time of sorrow at her passing.

What a great loss for all who knew Melissa. My wife, Joy, and I have known Melissa for over 20 years. She was a good friend and a wonderful, faithful influence in the lives of many of the children of KC First Church of the Nazarene for many years. My two daughters, now young adults, benefited directly from Melissa's spiritual influence and teaching in their early years at KC First as she lovingly worked with the young kids of our congregation.
I had the privilege of working with Melissa in a variety of ways -- both in our local church and in collaboration on VBS projects at the local and general church level. She was always a joy to work with. I loved her quick wit, her passion for children and her creative mind.
In these past few years as Melissa's health problems escalated, I was privileged to be able to spend more time with her as she navigated new challenges in her life. Though the adversities were formidable, she had a strong spirit and even in her darkest times, looked to her Lord as the firm foundation on which she built her life.
My heartfelt condolences to her family and the many friends who are grieving this tremendous loss. I am so saddened by her passing, but rejoice that she is now whole and in the presence of the One she lived for on this earth.

I knew Melissa as a tireless worker and an essential member of the Sunday School Ministries Department of the Church of the Nazarene. Her passion for children was exemplary and it will continue to live on through the ministry materials she helped write and develop. I and the SSM team were blessed to know her and look forward to the time we will greet her again in eternity. (1 Corinthians 15:51-54)

I first met Melissa on a visit to Kansas City when I first began serving in Children's Ministry. Over the years I had the opportunity to serve with her on several committees and project teams through NPH. She was my editor on several writing projects. In 2010 Melissa was my editor for my first book. She was more than an editor. She is my friend and constant encourager. She truly made the lives of everyone she knew richer by her compassion and love. My last phone call with her was about one year ago. We talked about our hopes, our family and friends. She will be greatly missed in the children's ministry leadership community. That is where she shined the most. So to my friend Melissa, thank you for loving children and those who were called to serve them. You made the world a better place!

I lost a dear friend this week. I've known Melissa K Hammer for 23 years. She was the first person to friend us when we moved to Kansas City all those years ago. She became a part of our family and was at every important event that involved my kids. Melissa was the adopted aunt that they so desperately needed because we lived far from family. She was one of the first people to hold Kellen after he was born and the first visitor we had after Faith's adoption. She would send me cards to remind me what a wonderful mother I was. I am so going to miss the impact and love she had on our family. I am going to miss the deep friendship that I had with her. Melissa loved children, she loved people with the love of Christ. I am going to miss you dear friend but am rejoicing that your body is restored.

Melissa was one of my roommates my senior year at MNU. She was a junior. We lived in the building with the suites, and as a nursing major I was too busy to be very social. However, I remember Melissa as a kind, gentle person with many talents. She had a great sense of humor and was a perfect roommate. I have read posts on her behalf over the past few years including when she still worked at Nazarene Headquarters. I was always proud to read our children's lesson materials that carried her name. Heaven gained a special person, but Earth has lost one.
