Obituary of Jim D. Blevins

Jim Dean Blevins, age 62, of Greeley, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2017, at his home surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born June 11, 1955, at Yates Center, Kansas, the son of Ralph and Mary (Guffey) Blevins. He attended Greeley High School. Jim was a machinist at Taylor Forge Engineering in Paola, Kansas for 28 years before retiring.

Jim and Mona (Broce) were married on June 6, 1987 at Garnett, Kansas. They lived north of Greeley on their farm since 1988. Jim's favorite hobby was cutting brush, drinking beer, and visiting with friends. The highlight of his day was seeing his grandchildren and fishing in the pond. Jim had a knack for fixing things, working on cars, and gardening. His pride and joy was his family and farm. He liked nothing more than teaching his nephews how to play poker and washers and playing practical jokes. Old cars, tractors, and old country music always found a way to occupy his time. Jim recently said that if he had one more perfect day, he would spend it cutting brush all day on the farm.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Mary Blevins; one sister, Sharon Kay Blevins; and one nephew, J.L. Blevins.

He is survived by his wife Mona Blevins, of thirty years; children, Wesley Dean Blevins and wife Amanda of Parker, Kansas, Mark Vincent Blevins and wife Alaina of Greeley, Kansas, Madison Marion Blevins of Greeley, Kansas; three grandchildren, Kadence, Ashlyn, and Henry; three sisters, Peggy Schuster and husband John of Garnett, Kansas, Marlene Schales and husband Orvis of Deer Park, Texas, and Diane Peck and husband LeRoy of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one brother, Jack Blevins and wife Janie of Greeley, Kansas; and a host of extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at St. John's Catholic Church, Greeley, with burial following at St. John's Cemetery. Family will greet friends at the church on Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to City of Greeley Parks and Recreation Department or to W.I.N.G.S.
